Position Summary
The Michigan State University Sexual Assault Therapist position will provide direct service and outreach to a diverse student population. MSUCC has a long-standing multicultural tradition dating back to 1969, and this position is one aspect of the center’s ongoing commitment to providing outreach and clinical services to traditionally under-served populations. The Sexual Assault Therapist will provide comprehensive psychotherapy services to victims of sexual assault and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, will facilitate individual counseling and group services and provide advocacy and crisis intervention services. This position also provides consultation services to MSU faculty and staff regarding sexual assault dynamics and trauma response. This position is responsible for the completion of counseling, advocacy, grant-required statistics, and service documentation.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of graduate study beyond a Bachelor's degree, such as a Masters in Social Work; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and State certification as a Social Worker or Counselor.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated competency and expertise in counseling and outreach with diverse populations; More than three years of experience providing counseling to survivors of sexual assault; experience providing sexual assault services and trauma treatment in a university or college setting; experience in facilitating training and presentations for large groups; experience with grant-related data collection and reporting.
